Agriculture, Hunting and Forestry

In 2008, the municipality posted an annual rice production of 10,034.5 metric tons for for the irrigated and 907.4 for the non-irrigated or rain-fed or a total of 10,941.901 metric tons with a corresponding worth in pesos of P163, 145,600.

Meanwhile corn production registered a 2,188 metric tons for the same year. Overall, the town has a total grains production of 13,129.9 metric tons.

White corn ranked second among the major crops that occupies 985 hectares which is equivalent to 10.37 percent of the total cultivated agricultural land that are dominantly planted in upland barangays. In 2007 corn posted a total production of 2,188 metric tons with a value of P26,256,000.

Coconut came next to corn which utilized up to 3,065.45 hectares. This represented 32.27 percent of the cultivated agricultural lands. The remainder is shared by vegetables, rootcrops, legumes, bananas, fruit trees and others.

Using the methods of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FINRI), which places the annual per capita requirement at 0.11434 metric tons, the 53,9146 people of Kapatagan would have a grains requirement of only 6,164.76 metric tons or only about 47 percent of the total grains productions of the municipality.

Livestock and Poultry

Total livestock and poultry production of Kapatagan total to 43,780 heads, of which 21,519 heads or 49.15 percent are poultry while 22,261 heads or 50.85 percent are livestock population. Of the livestock, hog ranks first with a total of 7,904 heads, accounting 35.50 percent. This is followed by ducks with 7, 402 heads, then by goats with 2,977 heads, cattle with 2,104 heads, carabao with 1,487 heads and horse with 387 heads.

These livestock and poultry are all raised at the backyards of the residents. There has been no commercial production of livestock and poultry in Kapatagan.
